Worthing Arrested

The Other McCain reports:

Aaron Walker, whose complaint against convicted terrorist Brett Kimberlin became a conservative cause célèbre this past week, was reportedly taken into custody today after a court hearing in Rockville, Maryland.

One person who attended the hearing in Montgomery County District Court said that Kimberlin asserted that Walker’s continued blogging represented a violation of a “peace order” Kimberlin had obtained against the Virginia attorney, who says Kimberlin tried to “frame” him for assault earlier this year.

During the course of the hearing — which reportedly lasted about an hour — Judge C.J. Vaughey appeared to become increasingly hostile toward Walker, who was taken into custody when the hearing concluded.

I have no words, no snark, no vocabulary adequate to convey what’s flowing through my head right now.

When will Kimberlin come for me?

Romney California Fundraiser Price Infuriates Critics

Several weeks ago when Barack Obama and George Clooney were hosting a $40,000 per plate dinner fundraiser at Clooney’s place, nobody batted an eye. So Romney is ramping up for some California action, too, and has scheduled some fundraisers in the Golden State. But as Jammie Wearing Fools reports, the left is savaging both Romney and his wife for engaging in the same behavior as Obama, as seen in this SFGate.com piece:

With Democrats portraying Mitt Romney as an out-of-touch millionaire and “vulture capitalist” from his years at Bain Capital, the GOP presidential candidate may be handing opponents some ammunition when he holds a fundraiser Wednesday at a 65,000-square-foot estate that’s opulent, even for upscale Hillsborough.

The exclusive location of the 95-room Carolands Chateau, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, and tickets running as high as $50,000 apiece aren’t the only reasons Romney’s political foes are stirred up.

The article doesn’t bother with objectivity, swinging at Romney as “an out-of-touch millionaire and ‘vulture capitalist'” from the very first sentence. There’s an obvious and clumsy association with Gordon Gecko from “Wall Street” to follow.  And there’s the suggestion that the “opulent” fundraiser is a “Richie Rich” style blowout. The hits keep on coming:

Sylvia Allegretto of UC Berkeley’s Institute for Research on Labor and Employment said, “Democrats should be hitting this hard,” to drive home their point “that running a company and running a country are absolutely almost antithetical to each other.”

Would that be “absolutely almost” as-in “definitely maybe” or “sort-of for sure?” Or is it more like, “generally specific” or “vaguely detailed?” Perhaps it’s more a kin to “Fake but accurate” and “true but false?” Well, my little squirrel brain is spinning. It’s a whole new world of obfuscated progressive clarity.

Look!! Ann Romney’s blouse!! Get her!

Democrats are also raising eyebrows at a “ladies luncheon” that Ann Romney, the candidate’s wife, is hosting Wednesday at the Palo Alto home of Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers and his wife, Elaine.

Remember back in the good old days, in April, when President Obama said families were off limits? Good times, good times.

Post-Memorial Day Wrap-Up

The Clinton Memo

There was some criticism of my posting for Memorial Day. Bill Clinton’s internal memo from 2000 wasn’t exactly compelling. But I felt it was appropriate given our seemingly sharp diversion from the meaning and purpose of the holiday. All weekend long I read and heard statements of gratitude to our active military and veterans. But Memorial Day, specifically, is:

one day of national awareness and reverence, honoring those Americans who died while defending our Nation and its values.

Memorial Day isn’t Veterans’ Day. I support my military. I feel extraordinary gratitude towards veterans. But on Memorial Day, it’s about the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for my freedom and way of life.

Progressive Humor Speaks Volumes

On Memorial Day morning after enjoying a round of golf with my self-decribed “dyed in the wool progressive” buddy, we’re walking to the parking lot when he declared,

This Memorial Day I’ll be honoring those doctors that gave 4-f’s to draft dodgers.

Seriously. Vile.

I changed the subject, quickly, certain that any sort of response would have been met with, “Sheesh, Darth. Lighten up and get a sense of humor, you wingnut. I was just kidding.”

Relaxing Weekend?

In Friday’s sign-off post, I may have mentioned something about avoiding yard work over the weekend. Yea, relaxation failed. We took on a pretty massive project that involved placing nearly 100 cement blocks, moving 9 yards of top soil, planting approximately 50 flowers, herbs, shrubs and bushes, and plumbing the irrigation to all of them. I think I broke my back.

Happy Memorial Day

Bill Clinton’s White House, from 2000:

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
(Owensboro, Kentucky)

For Immediate Release May 3, 2000
May 2, 2000

MEMORANDUM FOR THE HEADS OF EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES
SUBJECT: White House Program for the
National Moment of Remembrance
As Memorial Day approaches, it is time to pause and consider the true meaning of this holiday. Memorial Day represents one day of national awareness and reverence, honoring those Americans who died while defending our Nation and its values. While we should honor these heroes every day for the profound contribution they have made to securing our Nation’s freedom, we should honor them especially on Memorial Day.

In this time of unprecedented success and prosperity throughout our land, I ask that all Americans come together to recognize how fortunate we are to live in freedom and to observe a universal “National Moment of Remembrance” on each Memorial Day. This memorial observance represents a simple and unifying way to commemorate our history and honor the struggle to protect our freedoms.

Accordingly, I hereby direct all executive departments and agencies, in consultation with the White House Program for the National Moment of Remembrance (Program), to promote a “National Moment of Remembrance” to occur at 3 p.m. (local time) on each Memorial Day.

Recognizing that Memorial Day is a Federal holiday, all executive departments and agencies, in coordination with the Program and to the extent possible and permitted by law, shall promote and provide resources to support a National Moment of Remembrance, including:

  • Encouraging individual department and agency personnel, and Americans everywhere, to pause for one minute at 3:00 p.m. (local time) on Memorial Day, to remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by so many to provide freedom for all.
  • Recognizing, in conjunction with Memorial Day, department and agency personnel whose family members have made the ultimate sacrifice for this Nation.
  • Providing such information and assistance as may be necessary for the Program to carry out its functions.

I have asked the Director of the White House Millennium Council to issue additional guidance, pursuant to this Memorandum, to the heads of executive departments and agencies regarding specific activities and events to commemorate the National Moment of Remembrance.

William J. Clinton

It Doesn’t Feel Like America

Words fail. Visit Patterico and read.

In the last radio interview Andrew Breitbart ever gave, on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show, Breitbart talked about a new ruthless tactic used by thugs against political opponents:

[O]ne of the things they’ve done to people who have worked with me in the past, including an L.A. prosecutor, is to “SWAT.” That means that they’re spoofing phones, pretending to be somebody else’s phone, calling 911, and saying “I killed somebody” and then the person’s home is met with the guns drawn, the SWAT and the helicopters, in a horrifying act. It’s happened twice: once in New Jersey, once in Los Angeles, with an L.A. County . . . prosecutor who [is] associated with me.”

I am that L.A. County prosecutor. And in this post, you’ll hear the hoax call that sent police to my house, pointing loaded guns at me.

Read. Every. Word.
