I received some mail regarding my “Dear Governor Romney” post yesterday that made two points:
- The Country elected Obama to remove warmonger Bush. Why would I push for Romney to be a tough guy with foreign leaders? It’s a losing strategy.
- Who cares about my measly $100 bucks, much less an impotent threat to withhold “more”? Romney will focus on big fish and doesn’t care.
1. Obama’s conciliatory attitude towards the world had weakened America’s position. Countries that used to look to us for leadership or at least partnership now understand that they’re on their own as America devolves into self-loathing within, bowing to foreign leaders without and a complete absence of leadership on the domestic or World economic stages. The world no longer believes in America. That is Obama’s legacy.
2. Yes, you’re correct: $100 bucks is measly. But it’s the first donation I’ve ever made to a Presidential Campaign. And correct again, $250 additional dollars is meaningless in the big picture and the threat to withhold it is impotent… from a certain perspective. But think about this: Even if I’m a fringe outlier, there are 311 million Americans. So, let’s say there are only a limited few people who feel like I do, a rare few, say 1 person in every 300 Americans, or .03% of the entire US population. Just doing the math, that’s a paltry 93 thousand Americans, nation-wide, the population of one little city… A little city whose residents won’t be writing checks to Romney totaling just under $25 million dollars.
