In a press conference today, Attorney General Holder responded to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, explaining that the “courts have final say,” and going on to state that his department would respond formally to explain whether the Obama administration believes judges in fact have the power to overturn federal laws.
Holder appears to clarify a position that will reassure critics concerned by President Obama’s words yesterday. However, Holder’s statements stand in fairly stark contrast to Obama’s speech. One is left to ponder whether or not this schism between statements was intentional and what, exactly, Obama meant. Audacity is clearly one of our President’s strong suits.
