WaPo: Leave Barry Alone!

Ed Rogers has a cute post over at WaPo recalling his days in the White House when things got rough:

I’d like to shout out to the beleaguered souls working in the Obama White House and on the president’s reelection campaign today. I remember being in similar positions when things weren’t going well. When things are going well, you’re often reminded how smart you are. When things are going badly, you get a lot of advice and point-blank criticism of everything you do.  One myth that persists is that people in the White House aren’t told bad news because people want to curry favor.  But the fact is, because people think that, many of your allies flatter themselves by thinking, “I’m the one person who will call over there and tell so-and-so the truth.” Well, I had a couple of tours as that so-and-so.  You get countless phone calls from people telling you the bad news, each one thinking that you must not be hearing it from anywhere else. The callers take great pride in being the brave and committed souls who are not afraid to call you and tell you how bad it really is.

Yes, pity the poor White House. Sad, crying. Sad crying.

So today, if you’re thinking that obviously no one is telling the Obama hierarchy the truth, and you’re the only one who has the guts to call and tell them, trust me, they’ve already heard from dozens who think just like you do. Put down the phone, take a deep breath, and then reach out to somebody at the White House or the Obama campaign and give them a pat on the back.

Yea, ummmm… no. It might have been possible to quietly accept President Obama’s utter failure had he and his supporters not rubbed their smug arrogance in my face for the last three years as they told me to shut up because I was too stupid to understand Obama’s greatness and the only reason I could object to his wisdom is racism.

So what happens when you push good and reasonable people too far? What happens when people start to really notice the amazing disparity in the double standard?

Remember this?

“I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you’re not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration.” – Hillary Clinton (2003)

Yea, good times.

But today? You wingnut racists should give Barry a break because he doesn’t need you radicals to remind him that things aren’t going so well.

Yea, about that… Some guy named Breitbart once said (emphasis mine):

Everything has changed. Everything has changed in the last few years. Conservatives used to take it and we’re not taking it anymore.

And more to my point:

we’re going to listen to every word that comes out of your mouth and we’re going to hold you to the same standard that you hold us, which is an impossible one. And you’re going to have a hell of a time in 2012, because America has finally awoken to your Saul Alinsky bullshit tactics and we’re coming to get you.

Sunlight for Kimberlin and His Apologists

From TheOtherMcCain:

Liars hate nothing worse than to be exposed as liars — exposure makes it hard for them to get away with their lies — and three weeks of public attention to lying felon Brett Kimberlin and his associates have put them under extraordinary psychological pressure.

And PLEASE check out Patterico who has documented but a tiny fraction of the Harassment of Liberty Chick.

Why is California Boned? Reason 2,164

National Review’s Nash Keune takes aim at one of my favorite targets, California, and its bloated welfare rolls:

California is the nation’s welfare queen: The state accounts for one-third of America’s welfare recipients, though it only contains one-eighth of the population, and there’s no good reason for it.

Oh yes there is. More on that in a moment, Nash is on a roll:

Some of California’s welfare problem can be attributed to its particularly severe economic slump (California’s unemployment rate is 2.7 percentage points above the national average). But states in similar situations have significantly smaller caseloads; for example, Nevada, with the nation’s highest unemployment, at 11.7 percent, has a welfare-participation rate about one-quarter of California’s. In California, 3.8 percent of the population receives monthly welfare checks. In no other state is more than 3 percent of the population on the dole.

While he’s right, Keune focuses too narrowly on California’s failure to adhere to federal standards as a primary issue:

Reforming a program as thorny as welfare can be difficult, but California need only follow existing federal standards to alleviate its problems.

California’s decision to ignore federal welfare standards is one hole in a leaky dam. But it is symptomatic of the real problem. The state embraces entitlement programs enthusiastically while simultaneously enacting draconian regulations and taxes. The result? While pushing the earners and responsible citizens to other states California has attracted all of the nations leeches and stoners.

Nearly four million more people have left the Golden State in the last two decades than have come from other states.

“Basically, if you don’t own a piece of Facebook or Google and you haven’t robbed a bank and don’t have rich parents, then your chances of being able to buy a house or raise a family in the Bay Area or in most of coastal California is pretty weak,” says Mr. Kotkin.

While many middle-class families have moved inland, those regions don’t have the same allure or amenities as the coast. People might as well move to Nevada or Texas, where housing and everything else is cheaper and there’s no income tax.

Think about that for a moment… Four million MORE have left than have entered the state. So if 10 million have fled, that would mean 6 million have come in… Which begs the question, “6 million who?”

Numerous California counties and communities have clearly and publicly announced that they’re medical marijuana friendly. Joe Schmoe can grow, use all they want (with a prescription) and even sell a little on the side (or a lot). Enforcement of existing law is deliberately relaxed. In reality we have people making six figures completely off the books while paying no income tax at either the state or federal level, and making no contribution to Social Security. Because they show no income and have no “job” as such, they can drive to the welfare office in their Mercedes or Lexus (that they paid cash for) to collect food stamps, unemployment benefits and any other entitlements available.

The problems are exacerbated by willing bureaucrats and eager entitlement advocates that measure welfare program success by the ever increasing number of recipients “served” rather than focusing on increasing their personal and fiscal independence.

Steyn on Kimberlin’s War on Free Speech

As the story of convicted Speedway bomber Brett Kimberlin’s assault on free speech continues to gain traction in the media, National Review has Mark Steyn’s thoughts on Kimberlin and Walker’s recent court date:

Aside from the merits of the case, I was struck by the appalling performance of the presiding judge, one C. J. Vaughey. As is increasingly the way with our decaying justice system, there is no easily searchable court transcript, only an audio tape that a few individual bloggers have been painstakingly transcribing. Judge Vaughey comes across as a near parodic combination of bluster, ignorance and narcissism.

After quoting Judge Vaughey, Steyn laments:

Over the years, I’ve faced unsympathetic judges in various courts around the world, but I can’t recall ever listening to such a stream of unjudicial drivel from the bench as that which poured from Judge Vaughey. If Andy McCarthy or Ed Whelan or our other legal eagles can help me here, I’m genuinely curious: Is this Vaughey clod unusually awful? Or all too typical?
