Quote of the Day

Breitbart’s Dana Loesch on the FRC shooting and the tolerant left:

This tragedy today didn’t have to occur, but it did. People on the left need to come up with better ways to disagree with others besides this, thisthis, thisthis, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, and this.

The New Civility, Part 3,968

Occupy Wall Street anarchists and many progressives believe that property damage doesn’t hurt anyone. Back in May I wrote a piece noting that Brandon Kiley is just one of many self-loathing Americans who believes:

Smashing a window is not violence, it’s vandalism. There is a difference—unless you think of people as the moral equivalent of property.

-snip-

There is an enormous moral distinction between smashing a bank window and smashing a person. Lumping the two under the umbrella of “violence” is linguistically lazy and politically irresponsible. It is worth noting that in the dramatic property-destruction campaigns of groups like the Earth Liberation Front—burning SUV lots, ski lodges, and in one of their stupider and more infamous moments, a botanical research facility at the UW—people don’t get hurt.

At the time I pointed out that this moral disassociation was insane. I used the word sociopath. I sarcastically suggested that we burn down Brendan’s house as a protest, after all, we would be sure no one got hurt. But even I missed the forest for the trees: To these people, the building represents a facade for the evil corporation. Causing damage is victory. But the disassociation is even deeper than I gave credit for in my most cynical imagining:

Today, in Washington DC the Family Research Council was attacked and a guard shot by a lone gunman who reportedly stated, as he was taken into custody:

“Don’t shoot me, it was not about you, it was what this place stands for.”

If this is true it suggests we’ve come full circle: Like the buildings, the people in them are little more than an extension of the evil corporation.

“It’s nothing personal, dude.”

Sometimes, “I told you so” just doesn’t cut it.

Random Thoughts

Great. Now I find out if I eat eggs I’ll get throat and lung cancer, lose part of my jaw and have a throat plug. … What’s that? The actual article says, “the number of egg yolks consumed per week accelerates the thickening of arteries almost as severely as does cigarette smoking.” Oh ok, so that’s not quite the same thing. But you might as well put a gun to your head. Amirite?

Compare and Contrast:

Romney wants to let the — he said in the first 100 days, he’s going to let the big banks once again write their own rules — unchain Wall Street. They’re going to put y’all back in chains. -Joe Biden

We Americans look at one another’s success with pride, not resentment, because we know, as more Americans work hard, take risks, and succeed, more people will prosper, our communities will benefit, and individual lives will be improved and uplifted. -Paul Ryan

For some reason, the kids aren’t that enthused by Obama:

“This is the first time I am seeing Romney’s numbers this high among 18-29 year olds,” said Zogby. “This could be trouble for Obama who needs every young voter he can get.”

Maybe more Americans are paying attention than Obama thinks… maybe a lot more.

If I was young, and I heard about a guy who was a poor immigrant when he was a kid but worked hard, was diligent, and prospered, I might look at that as inspirational. And I might even see it as personification of the American Dream. And maybe, if I heard the President of the United States vilify this person because he was successful and is now rich, I’d start having very real reservations about this President.

The Washington Examiner reports on the latest Rasmussen poll:

59 percent of likely voters believe that the media has given Obama better treatment than Romney, a view Team Obama doesn’t agree with. Just 18 percent believe the media has treated Romney better.

Looking to the fall election, Rasmussen found that 51 percent believe the media will try to help Obama’s reelection while just 9 percent will go to bat for Romney. Some 22 percent believe the media will offer unbiased coverage.

“A view Team Obama doesn’t agree with.” Yea, shocking, I know.

Quote of the Day

H/T Hot Air:

“This is an election in which we should be talking about the path ahead, but you don’t hear any answers coming from President Obama’s re-election campaign. That’s because he’s intellectually exhausted, out of ideas, and out of energy. And so his campaign has resorted to diversions and distractions, to demagoguing and defaming others. This is an old game in politics; what’s different this year is that the president is taking things to a new low.” -Mitt Romney
