California Doom: A Perfect Storm Of Fail

The hostile business climate in California continues to force business out of the state. From the Daily Caller:

“Part of [moving operations to Texas] was the cost of doing business in California,” Ronald Mittelstaedt, CEO of Waste Connections, told CBS News. “Highest tax rates in the nation. Until recently very expensive real estate. Tremendous regulation and really a broken legislature.”

The California Manufacturing and Technology Association found in a recent study that 82 percent of companies surveyed did not consider California when expanding or opening a new facility.

The study also noted that companies looking to expand their operations favored states with proximity to their customers, generous tax incentives, low cost labor, proximity to suppliers and a comprehensible and a favorable tax system.

California ranked last or bottom tier in all of those categories.

And California’s 9.3 percent income tax on middle class workers — those who earn more than $48,000 — is higher than what millionaires pay in 47 states.

California has created a environment where starting and sustaining a business is increasingly futile. And while the state’s budget woes intensify (the state currently faces a $16 billion deficit), the Governor and Legislature are maintaining a laser-like focus on further increasing taxation and fees. Like our leaders at the Federal level, there is no discussion whatsoever relating to spending.

At this point, the critical problem is that our leaders are unwilling or unable to acknowledge some fundamental aspects of basic economics: Profit and Loss. Income and Expenditure. Don’t spend more than you have. The budget’s revenue should match-up with expenditures. It’s not brain surgery. It is the daily operating environment in the private sector (and for most citizens who have to balance their own checkbooks).

The whole situation is beyond insulting as our leaders beg for more tax money while ignoring the true peril that lies ahead. Instead, they hit the gas and accelerate as they drive us off the cliff.

The Left Damages Itself

From Patterico:

I’m a supporter of gay marriage and gay rights, but this kind of thing really makes me angry. I’m not going to stop supporting gay rights just because some other supporters are hateful, disgusting people. But I did experience a flash of anger where I thought about it. When I read this kind of thing, I had a feeling pass across me that I don’t want to be associated with these people in any way. Let them fight their battles on their own, if this is how they’re going to act, went the thought.

The thought came, and then passed as quickly as it had come. I thought of the good people I know who are gay, and who (I know) do not support such ugly sentiments. Why should those good people lose my support because of the nasties?

But that’s me.

I guarantee you that this kind of thing is going to lose other people.

Guarantee it.

So, to all you advocates of gay rights who don’t engage in this kind of ugly rhetoric, I say to you: you have a job to do. You need to talk to the people who leave comments like that, and make them stop.

It is not helping your cause. Not one bit.

Democrats in Panic

Over at Gateway Pundit, Jim Hoft has a post highlighting the DSCC’s current status:

The Democrats are in panic mode.
They’re getting beat in fundraising, spending and in the polls and they’re freaking out.
They don’t know what to do with their dog of a candidate.

I agree, but I think it’s more than their dog of a candidate. It’s their dog of an ideology. Americans are watching, they’re listening, and they’re reacting with revulsion to incident after incident, from our President, from his enablers in Congress, from his apologists in the media and from the zealots who follow him in a cult of personality, all of them marinating in an ideology that is fundamentally unAmerican while denigrating and attacking anyone who disagrees.

The Democrats have every reason to panic.

The Climate of Modern Progressivism

From Andy at Ace of Spades HQ, the Quote of the Day:

If you’re a conservative who holds the same position on same-sex marriage that Barack Obama publicly held up until a couple of months ago, you’re a bigot unworthy of even getting a business license. If you’re a practitioner of the Religion of Peace™ who advocates putting gays to the sword, though, no problem.

Unbelievable: Photoshop of Freedom Tower Attacked By Airliners (Updated)

I was looking for a photo of the current state of progress in building the Freedom Tower a few minutes ago.  So I simply Googled “Freedom Tower” and hit the “Images” tab expecting to find a lot of shots by New Yorkers that showed the building in various stages of it’s construction. But what was returned as a result in the first page shocked me. Out of over 25 million photos, the shot in question is displayed ninth.  Here’s the screenshot of the Google results:

Google images results for Freedom Tower. The seventh picture, third in from the left in the second row, shows the Freedom Tower smoking, and depicts an airliner approaching.

I held my nose and clicked through to a site called “News’N’Sh*t” that is still hosting the image:

The photoshopped image of the tower under attack, captioned, “Rendering of how the new world trade center freedom tower will look when completed” as currently hosted at newsnsh*t.com

I am so far beyond disgusted, I need to take a shower.

[Added 9-11-12 7AM Pacific:] With the Anniversary of the 9-11 Attacks upon us, this article is getting a lot of traffic. So I have questions for you visitors: Should I remove this article to avoid giving the disgusting photo further exposure? Should I do some investigation and see about finding the “Artist” who created it and finding out why? If you have an opinion, please share it by visiting my “About” page and letting me know in the contact form.

Meanwhile, The Blaze has a nice time-lapse video of the Freedom Tower’s construction.

On the anniversary of the attacks, we are mindful of the lives lost on that day, of the heroes who, without hesitation, jumped in to help, and passengers who made the ultimate sacrifice to take down one of the planes. I am humbled by the response of the hundreds (thousands) of people who were there. And I am grateful that our Nation values freedom and liberty in a world where those concepts are not so common as we would like to believe.

[Added 9-11-12 12 Noon Pacific:] There has been an overwhelming response to my request for feedback. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts on this photo. Emotions are very much on the surface today, which is not unexpected. I have received a few requests to remove the universally despised photo. But by a 9-to-1 margin (at the moment) people want to know who created it, and more importantly why. As a result I’m making inquiries and will report what I find. If you can help, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

[Added 10-26-12 6:30AM Pacific:] Multiple requests for information or comment have yielded no response. (But would you respond to someone identifying themselves as “Darth Chipmunk?”) I’m not an investigative journalist, so I’m not sure what my next steps should be (or even if there are next steps). If you have suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact me.
