Russia Tips its Hand Re: Romney v Obama

The LA Times is reporting that the chairman of the Russian international affairs committee of the State Duma, Alexey Pushkov, is reacting somewhat negatively to Mitt Romneys statement that Russia is America’s primary geopolitical foe:

“We don’t think that for us Romney will be an easy partner,” said Pushkov, an ally of President Vladimir Putin. “We think that Romney will be, on the rhetorical side, a replay of the Bush administration.”

He also noted Romney’s statements that the United States should assert its dominance in the 21st century.

“If he is serious about this, I’m afraid he may choose the neocon-type people…In the first year of his presidency, we may have a full-scale crisis,” he said.

I know you’re probably as shocked as I am to hear that the Russians would rather work with an “easy partner” like Obama and don’t relish the idea of a renewed and strengthened America on the World Stage led by Mitt Romney. Their concern stems from a CNN interview wherein Romney called Russia:

“without question our No. 1 geopolitical foe, they fight for every cause for the world’s worst actors. The idea that [Obama] has more flexibility in mind for Russia is very, very troubling indeed.”

The LA Times article goes on to state that Pushkov believes the “reset” in U.S.-Russia relations that Obama has portrayed as a signature foreign policy accomplishment “is stuck, basically. It needs another reset.” In addition, while the U.S. and Russia are at odds on issues such as Syria and missile defense, Obama would be “acceptable” as a partner for Russia in a second term, Pushkov said.

Does that concern you as much as it does me? The Russians see Obama as an acceptable partner, even though his signature foreign policy accomplishment is stuck and needs a reset (AKA it’s broken). And if elected, they claim, Romney will be like Bush, and would likely cause a full scale crisis. And the Russians are willing to say this, publicly, during our election cycle.

Seriously. Why not be a little more obvious and just go full-blown wailing histrionic: “Obama will bring world peace! Romney will bring world war! Vote for Obama, it’s the American thing to do!” -Signed, Your BFFs, The Russians

I respect the office of President of the United States. But the Russians don’t and I truly believe that Barack Obama doesn’t either. It is the only explanation for his inexplicable behavior as a bumbling, spineless, naive, jester in the international community who either doesn’t understand his responsibility to the World, to Democracy and Freedom, to American Citizens and to our Allies, or he deliberately chooses to ignore that responsibility.

The Russians know Romney won’t.

Alec Baldwin Shares Murder Fantasies

From the New York Post:

In the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine, which hits stands this week, the surly actor said he has wanted to murder the lawyer of ex-wife Kim Basinger “with a baseball bat.”

Baldwin added he would have liked to “gut’’ TMZ producer Harvey Levin, who on his Web site posted the infamous voicemails of Baldwin calling his teenage daughter a “pig.”

“I wanted to stick a knife in him and gut him and kill him, and I wanted him to die breathing his last breath looking into my eyes,” Baldwin told the magazine.

Dude.

Afternoon Snark

I’m glad to be a simple ground squirrel. Life is relatively simple and there’s plenty to keep me occupied. Nut gathering, berry picking, chasing the guys into the street in front of cars, hitting the hummingbird feeder (terrible hangover), horizontal mambo with Trixie… erm Mrs. Chipmunk, the raging Crow Wars (Marmotania has always been at war with the Corvidae, as if you didn’t know) and I can go on and on. anyway, “there’s lots going on” is my point.

Work has been a bear today and I’ve got to get back to it.

  • Anderson Cooper: White and Male. And in other news the sky is blue, Roseanne Barr is batshit crazy, the sun sets in the west and Anderson Cooper is gay. You’re welcome.
  • So, am I the only one concerned that the people running our Government fail to understand the concept of “checks and balances”?
  • I don’t get it. ObamaCare was NOT a tax, Obama (and his lawyers) said so. Then SCOTUS says it IS a tax, and that’s the only reason it’s constitutional. And now the administration swears up and down it’s NOT a tax. Wait… what?

Gun Owners Get Creative

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that a local pro-firearms group has used a city gun buy-back program to fund it’s summer camp:

A Downstate pro-gun group says it turned payouts from Chicago’s firearm buyback program last weekend into a fund-raiser for a youth summer camp — a National Rifle Association shooting camp, that is.

The city collected 5,500 guns last Saturday in the annual buyback. The city gave out $100 MasterCard gift cards for each gun and $10 cards for BB guns and replicas.

Sixty of the guns and several BB guns were turned in by the Champaign-based Guns Save Life. In return, the group received $6,240 in gift cards, said John Boch, president of the group.

Guns Save Life is known for the pro-gun signs the group posts along Interstate 57 between Chicago and Champaign. It also publishes a monthly gun journal.

Most of the money will go toward buying ammunition for an NRA youth camp in Bloomington. The rest will pay for four bolt-action rifles that will be given away to campers.

“This was rusty, non-firing junk that we turned in,” Boch said. “We are redirecting funds from people who would work against the private ownership of firearms to help introduce the next generation to shooting safely and responsibly.”

By the way, have you heard of Kennesaw, Georgia?
