Romney California Fundraiser Price Infuriates Critics

Several weeks ago when Barack Obama and George Clooney were hosting a $40,000 per plate dinner fundraiser at Clooney’s place, nobody batted an eye. So Romney is ramping up for some California action, too, and has scheduled some fundraisers in the Golden State. But as Jammie Wearing Fools reports, the left is savaging both Romney and his wife for engaging in the same behavior as Obama, as seen in this SFGate.com piece:

With Democrats portraying Mitt Romney as an out-of-touch millionaire and “vulture capitalist” from his years at Bain Capital, the GOP presidential candidate may be handing opponents some ammunition when he holds a fundraiser Wednesday at a 65,000-square-foot estate that’s opulent, even for upscale Hillsborough.

The exclusive location of the 95-room Carolands Chateau, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, and tickets running as high as $50,000 apiece aren’t the only reasons Romney’s political foes are stirred up.

The article doesn’t bother with objectivity, swinging at Romney as “an out-of-touch millionaire and ‘vulture capitalist'” from the very first sentence. There’s an obvious and clumsy association with Gordon Gecko from “Wall Street” to follow.  And there’s the suggestion that the “opulent” fundraiser is a “Richie Rich” style blowout. The hits keep on coming:

Sylvia Allegretto of UC Berkeley’s Institute for Research on Labor and Employment said, “Democrats should be hitting this hard,” to drive home their point “that running a company and running a country are absolutely almost antithetical to each other.”

Would that be “absolutely almost” as-in “definitely maybe” or “sort-of for sure?” Or is it more like, “generally specific” or “vaguely detailed?” Perhaps it’s more a kin to “Fake but accurate” and “true but false?” Well, my little squirrel brain is spinning. It’s a whole new world of obfuscated progressive clarity.

Look!! Ann Romney’s blouse!! Get her!

Democrats are also raising eyebrows at a “ladies luncheon” that Ann Romney, the candidate’s wife, is hosting Wednesday at the Palo Alto home of Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers and his wife, Elaine.

Remember back in the good old days, in April, when President Obama said families were off limits? Good times, good times.
