Civility – Part 2,418

On the way to work this morning the radio guy was talking about Dick Clark’s passing yesterday and listing off some of Clark’s many accomplishments and awards. I don’t know about you, but hearing of the passing of the World’s Oldest Teenager made me feel a lot more mortal.

The radio guy mentioned that Dennis Leary decided to roast Clark and sent a few tweets that were crass. Too soon, yea, but that’s just Dennis Leary. But I laughed out loud as the radio guy went on to seriously bash Leary and then continued with a lamentation regarding courtesy and respect in our society. Seriously.

Strap in, buddy. Because society has learned a lot from Snooki and her contempraries on Real TV shows going back 30 years, the anti-war movement (now Occupy) over the last decade, and the tactics of the left since the ’60’s. List off Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals and show me the section on respect and courtesy.

When being hurtful, rude, crass, arrogant, thoughtless, selfish, narcissistic, and a lot more, brings one attention and even success, whether on TV, at YouTube, in the political arena or among schoolmates, coworkers, peers, etc., it’s unrealistic to expect people to adhere to other standards or to expect that the ugly behavior won’t spill over into every aspect of our lives.

This is the future that Progressive Activism has made.
