The Results Of Obamanomics

Geoffrey Norman at The Weekly Standard:

The 8.3 percent unemployment figure is not merely unacceptable, it is misleading.  Things are worse than that number would have one believe.  If “labor force participation” had remained as high as it had been when President Obama took office, then the unemployment rate would be 11 percent. The lower figure conceals a magnitude of demoralization and the prospects are for things to get worse.

-snip-

Washington either can or cannot do something about the economy and the pall of unemployment.  If it can’t, then it needs to say so and let things work themselves out according the laws of laisez faire economics. If it can, then it is clear that the current plan – whatever it might be – has failed. And for voters to draw the appropriate conclusions.

Christian Persecution

Just yesterday I snarked about the disparate treatment of Islam and Christianity in America, using the bacon incident as example of what is a hate crime, and the removal of the Virgin Mary’s head at a church as example of what is not a hate crime. My point was that we’re losing our minds tiptoeing around the Muslims while we spit on Christians as sub-humans. Soon, I’ll be arrested for BBQing baby back ribs in my back yard. And at the same time, they’ll remove all of the Christian statues and representations, because that way, people who are rightly offended won’t destroy them.

Well, it’s not in America, yet. But, as Raymond Ibrahim reports (Hat Tip: Weasel Zippers), in Egypt:

at least seventeen Christian bookstores in Shubra, one of Cairo’s largest districts, are under threat for selling Christian icons and statues. The storeowners, who are “in panic,” say they received threat letters by mail demanding that they stop selling their “idolatry.”

Among other things, the letters, copies of which were presented to Youm-7, say “We warn you Nassara [Koran’s derogatory term for Christians] to cease your foul trade, whereby you sell filthy idols.”

I swear I was just kidding. I’m not a psychic. I was just being sarcastic. But idolatry?!  Take a moment and let that sink in: Jesus crucified is a filthy idol.

But yea. Religion of Peace ™

I Am George Orwell’s Righteous Indignation

Patterico posts about Brandon Raub a former marine who has been involuntarily detained for a psych evaluation because of facebook posts discussing a coming revolution. Authorities highlighted a particular post:

“Sharpen my axe; I’m here to sever heads.”

Beyond the obvious lack of understanding of the first amendment on the part of our leaders, elected officials, law enforcement and psychiatric professionals, the episode sounds way too close to 1984.

I have a liberal buddy who posts about revolution coming and a civil war and how he has a gun and a concealed weapon permit… Big deal. You don’t see him getting a visit from the Secret Service.

And really. Compare and contrast:

“We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November.” -Ted Nugent

Then again… Nugent did get a visit from the Secret Service. But I’m sure it’s just a coincidence. After all when Black Panthers intimidate voters or call for violence, the DOJ is right there! Oh, wait

And as Patterico points out there’s Ace of Spades HQ with the tagline from Mencken:

“Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.”

And there’s that other rebel, Thomas Jefferson:

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

Then there’s my personal favorite and a natural addition to the list, because I know what is best in life:

“To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.”

A Staggering Double Standard

Recently, you may have read about bacon found near a Muslim gathering to celebrate Ramadan:

Police were investigating Monday an incident that could be a hate crime targeting Staten Island Muslims.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said three packages of raw bacon was found on a football field in New Dorp Beach park on Sunday morning, just before a ceremony marking Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, was set to take place there.

Meanwhile, a statue of the Virgin Mary was “vandalized” by having its head removed at a church in St Louis. What’s more:

On Aug. 13, people coming to an early Monday morning Mass found the head returned to the bottom of the pedestal, with Satanic inscriptions in red and blood drawn dripping from the corners of Our Lady’s mouth to make her look like a vampire. Father Harrison described it as “a horrible act of desecration.”

-snip-

A police spokesman said there is no indication of a hate crime and that right now it is being treated as a vandalism.

So let’s recap: Leaving bacon on the ground isn’t wasting food or littering, it’s a hate crime against Muslims. But desecrating a Christian statue of the Virgin Mary on Church property by cutting off her head, then returning it with satanic inscriptions isn’t a hate crime,  it’s simple vandalism.

What’s next? Arrests of people eating bacon in their homes, charged with insensitivity and a hate crime against Islam? Meanwhile, perhaps all Christian statues should be outlawed and destroyed to discourage any more of these reasonable instances of vandalism.

What could go wrong?

Romney: Like A Boss

Over at National Review, Kevin Williamson has an epic piece up, “Like a Boss.”

Americans do not hate rich people. Americans love rich people. Americans will sit on their couches and watch billionaire Donald Trump fire people on television — for fun. Nobody hates Jay Leno for owning seven Aston Martins and 17 Lamborghinis — people go to his garage’s website (of course his garage has its own website) to ogle his cars and leave appreciative remarks.

Read the whole thing.
