Benghazi, Obama and the Surreal Expectations of the Progressive Left

Ace has a post up relating to the Benghazi disaster, starting with a sharp tweet:

As @johnekdahl puts it: It was decided from the first moments that this wasn’t terrorism, because it would be politically harmful if it were terrorism.

It’s close, but there’s more to it. Obama’s foreign policy (in fact, his whole world view) is anchored on the idea that America, democracy and freedom are not only unwelcome in the world, but have been destructive. America is an arrogant, insensitive bully that has shoved its ideals down the world’s throat. If only American leadership could understand this and act on it, then we would have peace.

So along came Obama, acting on it. Hope and change. Bowing to foreign leaders, promising more flexibility after his reelection, mocking American exceptionalism and more, all meant to send the message to the world that we are a new, gentle, kind and sensitive nation. And definitely not interested in spreading those awful American values.

So Benghazi.

Thoroughly marinated in progressive dogma, Obama and his advisers were incapable of identifying the events of 9/11 as terrorism not because the truth was politically harmful, but because the event transpired in violation of their belief system.  The attack exposed the premise of Obama’s entire foreign policy worldview as tragically naive and dangerously misguided. I believe they watched the event live, in shock at what they saw and in denial that their policies not only failed to satisfy the terrorists, but actually encouraged and enabled them. After all, it was the exact opposite of what was supposed to happen, according to their worldview.

Please vote Romney on Tuesday. We can’t afford four more years of governance based the kind of wishful thinking that Barack Obama and his staff embrace and practice.

Nice To Know I’m Not Alone

From the Las Vegas Review Journal:

This administration is an embarrassment on foreign policy and incompetent at best on the economy – though a more careful analysis shows what can only be a perverse and willful attempt to destroy our prosperity.

And they’re just warming up.

Back in January 2008, Barack Obama told the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle that under his cap-and-trade plan, “If somebody wants to build a coal-fired power plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them.” He added, “Under my plan … electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” It was also in 2008 that Mr. Obama’s future Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, famously said it would be necessary to “figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe” – $9 a gallon.

And it gets better:

These behaviors go far beyond “spin.” They amount to a pack of lies. To return to office a narcissistic amateur who seeks to ride this nation’s economy and international esteem to oblivion, like Slim Pickens riding the nuclear bomb to its target at the end of the movie “Dr. Strangelove,” would be disastrous.

Candidate Obama said if he couldn’t fix the economy in four years, his would be a one-term presidency.

Mitt Romney is moral, capable and responsible man. Just this once, it’s time to hold Barack Obama to his word. Maybe we can all do something about that, come Tuesday.

Obama: Fundamentally Unserious or Deliberately Incompetent?

I never liked candidate Barack Obama and didn’t vote for him for President. But on his inauguration day, when he ended his speech, I stood and I clapped because I love my country and I hoped that Obama’s rhetoric would prove to be a reflection of his plan, that he would unite Americans, heal our economy, and improve America’s stature in the World. But, in reality, Obama’s administration has produced the opposite results.

Instead of uniting all Americans as Americans and elevating the USA abroad, Obama has managed to separate us by every conceivable measure internally while making the USA a laughing-stock to other world leaders. Americans are now separated through the language of class warfare where the “rich” aren’t paying their “fair share”. Women have been reduced to walking vaginas named Julia who require government help from cradle to grave. Gays, blacks, and Hispanics have been conveniently separated into grievance-based voting blocs. Catholics and Christians are insensitive and evil for following their conscience while Islam is simply misunderstood for spreading Shariah. Obama and Pelosi shoved Obamacare down America’s throat. Unemployment is still near 8% nationwide, not counting the millions who have given up looking altogether. (Remember when Bush’s 5.7% unemployment rate was criminal and impeachable?) The economy was supposed to have long since recovered because of the stimulus, but it hasn’t budged even as Obama claims victory in avoiding another great depression even though he’s created a doubling of Bush’s deficit after promising to halve it. Internationally, we witness the leader of the free world clumsily bowing before multiple foreign leaders and naively promising tyrants “more flexibility” after the election.

Obama jets off to a Vegas fundraiser while an American Ambassador is under attack and in extremis. We learn that the Ambassador called the local situation dangerous and asked for more security forces; a request that was denied. We learn that the attack raged for over four hours and two drones were overhead the whole time, allowing the CIA, State Department and White House to watch the entire drama unfold live. And someone in the Administration refused to send in help. We have even learned that the SEAL operators at the attack site were not from the Embassy, but from the local CIA office. And that they disobeyed direct orders, twice, to go and help the Ambassador. When on the roof at the compound, the SEALs had painted the terrorists with a laser while using a machine gun to try to fend of a mortar attack. They painted the target with a laser.

Consider that. A laser “painting a target” provides a pinpoint bulls-eye for any support aircraft to fire its weapons and hit the target with extraordinary accuracy. SEALs don’t do anything out of wishful thinking. They act deliberately. They didn’t paint the target because they hoped support might be there; they painted the target because they knew support was present in the theater. But someone ordered any and all support to stand down.

For his part, the President said, “What happened in Benghazi is a tragedy. We’re investigating exactly what happened. I take full responsibility for that fact. I send these folks in harm’s way, I want to make sure they’re always safe and when that doesn’t happen, that we figure out what happened and make sure that doesn’t happen again. But my biggest priority now is bringing those folks to justice and I think the American people have seen that’s a commitment I’ll always keep.”

Read it several times. That is from the Leader of the Free World: A tragedy. We’re investigating. Justice. He makes it sound like a simple crime scene. But it’s not a tragedy, it’s a terrorist attack. We shouldn’t need to investigate, our Government watched events live. And safety of Americans seems to be nothing more than a talking point.

General Petraeus, current head of the CIA, has stated unequivocally, “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate.”

Meanwhile, Leon Panetta, the secretary of Defense said, “The U.S. military did not get involved during the attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, last month because officials did not have enough information about what was going on before the attack was over.”

Disgusting. Cowardly. Wrong. Now, nations across the planet understand that the assassination of an American Ambassador, once considered an Act of War, is now no big deal. There was a time when despots and terrorists wouldn’t dare screw with the United States. A time when foreign governments would have desperately stopped something like this because they understood the danger to themselves for not protecting our envoy.

But there’s the point of it: Obama and the left govern based on wishes and rainbows and unicorns. These people actually believe that a strong America is a fault and events leading to this situation make it our responsibility. And they believe that by apologizing and signalling weakness our enemies will cease aggression and forgive us. It’s unbelievable.

I no longer know what even think of President Obama. I continue to give him the benefit of the doubt because the alternative is unthinkable: From all appearances he is a Manchurian Candidate, an empty shirt elevated to prominence acting as an agent of destabilization not just of America, but of the world. Yes, that sounds like conspiratorial nonsense. But the question remains, why is it that everything Obama touches is left worse-off due to his involvement? Is it that he’s really that incompetent? I don’t buy it. But the remaining possibility is that his actions are deliberate and his results are desirable.

Time to retire Mr Obama this November.

Democrats and Critical Thinking

Given the state of the economy, the trajectory of foreign events, or the division within our country, it is difficult to understand how Obama’s supporters can so easily give him the benefit of the doubt, continue to blame Bush and uncritically conclude that 4 more years of Obama is a good idea. But here we are. Stacy McCain hits on the point over at American Spectator:

it is a rare thing these days to encounter a Democrat who is both honest and intelligent. It has become a party of fools misled by clever liars, and the factual deficiencies of The Plan won’t dissuade any Democrat who still believes in the rainbows-and-unicorns fantasy of Obama the Lightworker. We’ve come to expect such delusions among the intelligentsia. What is astonishing is that any ordinary man could still be such a fool.

[Added:] Stacy McCain tweets:

He has a point… I was very generous with the use of the conjunction.

Not Dead…

Obviously the blog hasn’t been recently updated. I haven’t fallen of the planet. But I have had a job change that simply requires my focus. Sadly, it doesn’t lend to blogging.

I am alive, however. And will try to post something every few days to keep the place from getting too dusty!
