NBC “Apologizes” for Doctoring Zimmerman 911 Call

The Washington Post is reporting that NBC has completed its internal investigation and issued a weak apology for doctoring the recording of the 911 call from George Zimmerman on the night Trayvon Martin was killed. NBC version:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.

Versus the uncut 911 call:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.

Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?

Zimmerman: He looks black.

But here is NBC’s apology:

During our investigation it became evident that there was an error made in the production process that we deeply regret. We will be taking the necessary steps to prevent this from happening in the future and apologize to our viewers.

Translation:

The machine ate our tape. We didn’t mean to get caught and we’re sorry about that. We’re taking steps to prevent being caught next time and apologize to our embarrassed viewers who actually believe the stuff we say.

Note the complete lack of apology to George Zimmerman.
